West End Yacht Club Presents: Sweethearts of the Caribbean

Another beautiful Virgin Islands Day for racing this past Saturday, as the contestants in the 45th Sweethearts of Caribbean Regatta took off from Soper's Hole to sail around Pelican Cay, Flanagan Cay, and Little Thatch Cay. A strong current through the Narrows was no deterrent for winner Hotel California Too, a Santa Cruz 70 from St. Croix.

Steve Schmidt of Hotel California Too receives his 1st place Goslings Black Seal 151 Rum and Goslings Ginger Beer at Omar's Fusion after the race.

Club member Steve Varrow of the West End-based Alden 50 sloop Nomad eagerly admires his Goslings Black Seal Rum as second place finisher.

Visiting from St. John, the Skye 51 sloop Spitfire cut a pretty picture as she took 3rd place in the Sweethearts of the Caribbean racing.

Also visiting from St. John was the gaff cutter Gwendolyne.

All of our contestants qualified as Classics this year, more than 25 years old.
